It's a beautiful thing to see over 2 million people from around the world signing up and telling our government leaders that they are ready to see a fair, ambitious and binding climate deal reached in Copenhagen this December.
To give you an idea of where the people are from that are signing up to say they're ready, we have:
- 365,000 from France signed up
- 130,000 from New Zealand - this is 2% of the entire population
- 227,000 from Argentina
- 65,000 from India, almost 30,000 from China, and more
And we're only just getting warmed up!
There's a lot to do before the Copenhagen summit in December. The negotitions that went on last week in Bangkok last week show that while we have a presence and a strong voice, we need to do more to get through to our government leaders. We have the momentum and we need to capitalize on this momentum.
As many of you know, the whole idea behind the TckTckTck campaign is to bring together organizations and people from around the world to send a loud message to our government leaders that we want them to stand up and be the leaders we need them to be in Copenhagen. If enough of us stand up and show up at key moments, our leaders will in turn stand up.
With only 53 days left, there's a lot we can all do, but the hour is getting late. Here's some of things you can do to help out:
1. If you have a blog, start writing about the need for a strong deal in Copenhagen and let people know that there is a global movement of everyday people who want to see this happen. You can also take part in Blog Action Day today - this year's theme is climate change and 7,500 bloggers are writing posts today on the issue.
2. Join the 350 International Day of Climate Action. There's probably an event happening in your town already, so make sure you show up.
3. Follow the TckTckTck Facebook group and ask your friends to do the same. It's a great way to get involved in the conversation and learn about all the things people are doing. Same goes for the TckTckTck Twitter page.
4. Take part in some the other activities that are being undertaken by our partner organizations, like Adopt-a-Negotiator, Oxfam's Time to Click campaign, download the Global Humanitarian Forum's Beds are Burning song and WWF's Vote Earth pledge.
5. Stay tuned to TckTckTck often because we're launching new and exciting things everyday as we continue to gain the momentum we need to ensure that our leaders stand for a fair, ambitious and binding deal in Copenhagen. And, of course, don't forget to sign up and ask all of your friends to sign up as well to tell the our leaders that we are ready.
We're going to get there, the global movement is here and it's engaged, but we need to keep growing so by the time the Copenhagen summit comes we will be a voice that cannot be ignored easily.
