It is day 5 of the COP and the talks have gotten tense, as the demands for a treaty strong enough to protect the most vulnerable continue to challenge the limits of political will in the developed world. But in this very moment too, in many parts of the world, candlelight "vigils for survival" are beginning to kick off The World Wants a Real Deal weekend, an unprecedented collaboration of climate action by TckTckTck partner organizations.
Tomorrow's global day of action is the centre-piece of the weekend-- all across the world, TckTckTck partners like Avaaz, Greenpeace, Oxfam, 350.org, WWF and many others will inspire and lead thousands of people as they gather in major cities, from London to New Delhi, Jakarta to Kampala to send one powerful message to world leaders meeting in Copenhagen: the World Wants a Real Deal.
People will gather at rallies in their capital cities to sign their names and write their hopes for the outcome of the COP 15. They will post photos of their children, grandchildren, grandparents and favorite places, then stand in solidarity with others like them all across the planet to highlight that we are all in this together. Whoever we are, wherever we call home on Earth, regardless of age, race, religious affiliation or social status, our present well being is inextricably linked to each others' and to that of our children's as well. Today, tomorrow and on Sunday, people from all walks of life will gather to tell leaders in Copenhagen that we need a fair, ambitious and legally binding climate deal.
Together we woke up the world on Sep 21st, shocking politicians by the size of the movement for climate action. On Oct 24th, we held the world’s most widespread political action in history. Now, with the clock running out and the talks hanging in the balance, we can ensure world leaders know they need to keep working towards a Real Deal by demonstrating that WE are ready for them to.
