Why Tck?
The world is at a crossroads. Climate change is threatening our future and that of our children and grandchildren. We can still choose our future, and there has never been a better time to build a greener, more secure world, but the clock is ticking and urgent action is needed.
World leaders met at the United Nations climate talks in Copenhagen last December, and we all know they failed to make an agreement to stop dangerous climate change. The role of unified civil society was pivotal in reaching over 15M supporters, getting the media to pay attention to Copenhagen and the issues, and getting over 100 heads of state to attend.
But we can't let them off the hook - the more they see a massive, diverse, and passionate effort by civil society and citizens everywhere to demand leadership on climate change, the more likely they will be to act.
TckTckTck was formed by a group of environmental, humanitarian, religious and labor organizations, all of whom acknowledged the need for an unprecedented international effort urging our governmental leaders to take decisive action by crafting an historic climate change deal.
Many organizations are continuing to mount their own campaigns to educate and encourage their supporters to demand action on a climate change agreement. However, to have a major motivating impact, we need to be bigger than the sum of our parts. Our goal, with the active participation of our partners, is to aggregate all partner actions, and to be everywhere so that world leaders must respond to the global call for action. We’ll never have a better chance to set the world on the path to a cleaner, more just, and more stable future.
