Équiterre develops projects that empower citizens to make environmentally and socially responsible choices. Founded in 1993 by a group of young people who had participated in various preparatory conferences at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Équiterre helps build a social movement by encouraging individuals, organizations and governments to make ecological and equitable choices, in a spirit of solidarity.
Équiterre's four programs - ecological agriculture, fair trade, sustainable transportation and energy efficiency – and its two campaigns- climate change and responsible consumption - are at the core of projects that encourage individuals to take concrete actions that bring about positive change.
