Today we are excited to launch our global campaign song, a re-mix of the mega-hit "Beds are Burning", recorded by over 60 artists and celebrities, and re-written by Midnight Oil themselves to reflect the greatest humanitarian crisis facing humankind today - climate change.
Watch the song here or on YouTube, and be among the first on the planet to see it. Or, you can download it for free here, or at the Apple iTunes store (not available in all regions). Every download counts as part of our TckTckTck campaign to let our world leaders know the world is ready for an ambitious, fair, and binding climate deal in Copenhagen this December. As far as we know this is the world's first global musical petition!
The song was driven by one of the co-founders of the TckTckTck campaign, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's new organization, the Global Humanitarian Forum, and their partners global advertising giant Havas Worldwide and their film production arm, The:Hours.
The song has been supported by over 60 international music stars and celebrities including Duran Duran, Mark Ronson, Jamie Cullum, Melanie Laurent, Marion Cotillard, Milla Jovovich, Fergie, Lily Allen, Manu Katche, Bob Geldof, Youssou N’Dour, Yannick Noah and many more.
Mr Annan said: “Climate change is the greatest humanitarian challenge facing mankind today. And it is a challenge that has a grave injustice at its heart. It is the major developed economies of the world which contribute the overwhelming majority of global greenhouse emissions. But it is the poorer and least developed nations that are hit hardest by its impact. By downloading the song, people from around the world will add their names to this growing global petition, and together we will create such a noise our leaders will listen".
Help us make this song huge and reach new people with the messages of TckTckTck! To help, you can:
- Download the song for free from iTunes. Every download counts as part of our TckTckTck pledge!
- Watch the video on YouTube: the more people see it, the higher profile it will get
- After you've seen it, favourite it, comment on it, and share with your friends
- Tweet it, post to your Facebook page, or your blog
But most of all, please sign our "I am ready" pledge so we can keep you connected with the rest of the amazing campaign plans we have cooking up here!

We must be ready!!
Sure beats marching, but convincing pragmatic leaders to listen is the hard bit. Our issues to rail against never seem to stop but this is the biggest. I used to think we'd kill the planet off with nuclear warfare, but this huge problem of climate change is insidious yet more dangerous. Action is needed now.
Old protesters don't sleep, just change their issues

We have to act now!!!! Not tomorrow, not next year, not in 10 years! (If it's not already to late when I remember back in the mid 70ies a slogan from greenpeace or Greens "Es ist 5 Minuten vor 12 - it's 5 minutes to 12)

Transcription
OK, I transcribed it, but am still not clear on the first stanza. After listening many times, this is what I've got:
"Down at the river bed
The earth is cracked
And dying’s dead
Fountains ailing
Cities baking
A steaming 45 degrees"
Can anyone correct lines 2 - 4?
Thanks

Here are the Lyrics, everybody!
Beds Are Burning lyrics
Tck Tck Tck
[Kofi Annan speaks]
Climate change is having a real impact
On the lives of individuals
And communities around the world
We must do something about it
In December in Copenhagen
Our leaders will have an opportunity
To come up with a robust post-climate agreement
That is viable and will help make this planet a better place
Down at the river bed
The earth is cracked and dry instead
Farms are failing, cities baking
Steam in 45 degrees
The time has come
To take a stand
It's for the Earth
It's for our land
The time has come
A fact's a fact
The heat is on
No turning back
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
The time has come
To take a stand
It's for the earth
It's for our land
Heaven hopes we’ll find a cure
From Bejing west to Timbuktu
The global village lives and breathes
In 45 degrees
The time has come
To take a stand
It's for the Earth
It's for our land
The time has come
A fact's a fact
The heat is on
No turning back
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
The time has come
To take a stand
It's for the Earth
It's for our land
The time has come
A fact's a fact
The heat is on
No turning back
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
[Desmond Tutu concludes]
I support the Campaign For Climate Justice
And I'm pleased to become a climate ally
This is your campaign

Its so easy for US to spread the word, how much more evidence will our politicians need?

Brilliant!
Great song. I think it should be spread over the internet like a virus! Click the little share button and put it on your facebook page! =D Also, do the same for www.blackle.com a custom google search engine that saves energy by using a black background. Thus far it has saved just under 1.5 million watt hours!

I want to be able to look my son in the eyes twenty years from now and say that I tried everything in my power to raise awareness about climate change. Thank you for this website and the chance to feel that I can actually do something.

A great teaching aid
Thanks Richard, for the lyrics.
So far, I've used the music video with 3 of my English classes in Vietnam - a chance to do some awareness-raising, while practising listening skills. It's been well-received.
Also sent out the link with lyrics & Vietnamese translation to everyone in my VN email list.
It'd be great to see a tally of how often the video's being downloaded worldwide!
Is it getting much airplay in the west?
Is it on MTV?

LET'S MAKE SOME NOISE!!!
We all have a voice, now let's make some noise and raise awareness. I think it's great when musicians get together and collaborate to make a statement; they can get the attention of the masses. I want to give a special thanks to the celebrities and musicians that were involved in this song and video.

I dont believe it !
Money has too much an important place in our world today.
Look at the current crisis we dont believe in a just and equal world.
OK we can tax the basic people, but real simple changes can be made today that are just not being made !

Responsabilite des dirigeants
De Gaulle disait: Gouverner c'est prévoir.
Puisque les prédictions des scientifiques sot en train de se réaliser et que le réchauffement est en marche, il serait peut être temps de gouverner....... dans le bon sens!

EVERYBODY has the power to effect change!
I agree.. HOW CAN WE DANCE? ignorance is not bliss! Everyone should just get over themselves, politics and national prides are irrelevant because without the conscious effort to take action and rational decisions to save our planet there will be no LIFE ON EARTH. Take a stand do whateer little you can do to persuade others and there might be a chance to avert the global destruction at our doors, otherwise History will simply record YOUR part and lack of consideration. What do you want to be remembered for? Think on!
