Event Description

COP15 - The Final Push

Starting Thursday, we'll have a home base and three major actions: a vigil at 5pm Thursday, the Fossil of the Year at 1pm Friday followed by a spectacular leader-shaming action, and a candlelit aerial photo at 5pm Friday--all at the new space. Please spread the word and join in!

All the actions below will take place at the brand-new NGO workspace in downtown Copenhagen, which will open at noon on Thursday. The space is complete with power, toilets, a cafeteria, and--if technicians succeed tonight--Internet access for all, with space for 2500+ people.

Please come to Øksnehallen and join any or all of the actions below. Friends, relatives, reporters, and negotiators are all welcome!

VIGIL FOR SURVIVAL: Time for a Real Deal -- Thursday, 5-6pm

RSVP: www.avaaz.org/vigil
We will gather in the Øksnehallen space for a solemn and powerful event recognizing the urgency and gravity of the moment--and urging leaders to rise to the world's call to action. We will hear from speakers from vulnerable communities, multiple faiths, and those participating in the climate justice fast. Then, after a minute of silence, we will move one by one to bring forward candles or notes with our wishes for a just future.

Note: On Thursday, thousands of people in Copenhagen and around the world are fasting in solidarity with those who  have and could lose their lives to preventable and involuntary hunger, disease and conflict resulting from climate change. Join at www.avaaz.org/fast.

COLOSSAL FOSSIL & "Climate Shame" photo shoot -- Friday, 1-2pm

RSVP: www.avaaz.org/fossil
At 1pm, the dreaded and beloved Fossil of the Day Awards will reach their annual climax: the Colossal Fossil... the Fossil of the Year. Boo the winning countries as the world's progress-obstructing leaders personally accept the NGO community's shame and dishonour, based on votes by more than 500 members of the Climate Action Network. (If heads of state decline to attend, they will be represented by people wearing masks of their faces.)

Following the Fossil ceremony, all present will be invited to pick up oversized pictures of world leaders' faces and placards reading "climate shame" (unless the talks have tremendously improved!) and join a massive photo shoot--outside, weather permitting, or inside the space. Take your pick of leaders to shame!

AERIAL ART -- Friday, 5-6pm

RSVP: www.avaaz.org/photo
As the final outcome nears and night falls in Copenhagen, we will move outdoors to form a candle-lit aerial image with our bodies--to send a message to the world that we all stand together on climate change, here in Copenhagen and beyond. Photos like this one, formed from hundreds or even thousands of people, convey the unity of our call for a just, climate-safe future; even as our leaders earn climate shame, our movement grows stronger each day. Make sure to wear warm clothes -- we will provide hot chocolate!

And remember--you are welcome to use Øksnehallen throughout the day as a space to reflect, strategize an join together.
