What are RSS Feeds?

RSS feeds are news subscriptions that allow you to see when websites have added new content. Feeds are a quick way to get news and updates in one spot as soon as the information is published, without having to visit the website.

How is RSS used?

RSS feeds are subscribed to and read using a news reader that checks the feed regularly and displays new items including media suchas images, video, and audio.

News readers can be either applications running on your computer (FeedReader, NetNewsWire) or online services that can be accessed from any computer (Google Reader, My Yahoo!). Some web browsers can auto-discover RSS feeds on visited sites and will indicate if feeds are available. Browsers canalso be extended to read feeds.

Feeds are subscribed to by copy-pasting or dragging the feed URL to the reader. A feed may be indicated by the RSS icon or simple text links.

Some sites may have multiple feeds including news, events, announcements and categories.
