Maldives President Nasheed rallies for ambitious deal with huge crowd at Klimaforum

President Mohammed Nasheed of the Maldives was the first head of state to arrive in Copenhagen yesterday, and his first public appearance was a giant rally with 350.org at the people’s forum.

Nasheed gave a rousing speech at the “Suicide Pact or Survival Pact?” event at Klimaforum hosted by TckTckTck partner 350.org. By the end, the crowd of a thousand people were all on their feet chanting 3-5-0!

Delegates at Climate Vulnerable Forum call on world leaders to attend Copenhagen Summit

Heads of State and Ministers from eleven nations that are most vulnerable to climate change are calling for U.S. President Barack Obama and the leaders of major emerging economies such as India and China, to personally attend the Copenhagen Climate Summit this December and “redouble their efforts at reaching a binding, ambitious, fair and effective agreement.”

Maldives cabinet meets underwater to highlight global warming threat

The government of the Indian Ocean nation of Maldives held a cabinet meeting underwater on Saturday to call for global action on climate change.  Maldives has a particularly dire stake in the battle to avert global warming as the lowest-lying nation on the planet, with islands averaging only 7 feet above sea level.
