Delegates Seek More Definition, Much More, in Barcelona Climate Talks

BARCELONA (November 4, 2009) — Given the scary hazards of climate change – more killer storms, rising seas, farmland turning to dust, and time running out on reaching agreement on a global plan that leads to a solution  – a bit of humor and irony is probably a good thing. Early Monday morning, at the start of the final negotiating session before a big climate conference next month in Copenhagen, delegates from 192 countries were greeted by the insistent beeping and whining of hundreds of bedside alarm clocks.

This afternoon in Barcelona, TckTckTck Campaign Director Ben Margolis presented U.N. climate chief Yvo de Boer with one of the 1,000 ringing alarm clocks used to wake up negotiators from around the world as they arrived on Monday to continue climate negotiations leading up to Copenhagen.

Activists ring alarm clocks for climate change talks

BARCELONA, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- As a new round of UN climate change talks began here Monday, climate activists gathered in the Spanish city to ring 1,000 alarm clocks in front of the conference venue to remind delegates that time is "running out" for a deal.

Ben Margolis, an organizer of the TickTickTick campaign, said: "We will deliver these tick ticking clocks to delegates here for the negotiations to remind them that time is running out for a deal to be made."
