We need help from artists—we need them to help with an artwork bigger than humans have ever built before, the first global-scale group show. It’s going to be slightly wild, and very beautiful.

Details in a moment, but first the rationale:

Sometimes the work of artists is to remind us of things we’ve forgotten, things we know in our bones but that slip our minds.

In this case, it’s the fact that we live on a planet. Yes, in a house. Yes, in a town in a country. But most of all on a planet—something that’s a little too big for most of us to think about every day.

While much of the northern world is sweltering through the hottest summer on record and we are all still reeling from the devastating oil spill in the Gulf, TckTckTck is already thinking about fall. Two months from today--on October 10th---is the most important day for the climate movement this year.

10:10:10 is a global work party and an international day of doing. Around the world, people and communities will gather together for local projects to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. What exactly are people doing?

When a well started spewing oil off Santa Barbara in 1969, it spurred the first Earth Day, which in turn launched the environmental movement and a fundamental questioning of the balance between humans and the rest of nature. It turned out, in other words, to be a real Moment.

They're on the front lines of the climate crisis and know better than anyone the consequences of not taking action. Representatives from TckTckTck, 350 and 10:10 joined Avatar director James Cameron, LA Mayor Antonio Villaragosa and hundreds of students for an Earth Day screening of Avatar at the Nokia Theatre in Hollywood on April 22, 2010.

Dubbed the 'HomeTree' event, the celebration was in honour of the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day and featured live music, a screening of eco-highlights from Avatar, and a question and answer session with James Cameron and selected Avatar cast members, including Michelle Rodriguez.

President Mohammed Nasheed of the Maldives was the first head of state to arrive in Copenhagen yesterday, and his first public appearance was a giant rally with 350.org at the people’s forum.

Nasheed gave a rousing speech at the “Suicide Pact or Survival Pact?” event at Klimaforum hosted by TckTckTck partner 350.org. By the end, the crowd of a thousand people were all on their feet chanting 3-5-0!

Climate awareness group 350.org are targeting the weekend of December 11-13 as a prime opportunity to highlight the urgency and importance of decisions to be made at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, with a series of events scheduled in cities around the world.

There are candlelit vigils planned for Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December, rallies marches and protests on the Saturday, and musical community events on Sunday 13 in an effort to unite the world's people if not their political and corporate leaders.
