TckTckTck and Greenpeace offer a life ring for the Cancun climate talks
Early Friday morning a large group of activists led by TckTckTck and Greenpeace joined together to represent what civil society organizations are trying to do in this last hours of climate talks: “Rescue the negotiations.”
Around 30 activists dressed up as delegates attending the Cancun climate talks, marched into the water and began “drowning” in front of a crowd of journalists and photographers.
Around 70 more activists dressed in blue an green threw a giant lifesaver to the downing delegates that were swimming in different direction – as they seem to do in climate talks – once they were dragged to the shore, a collective hug closed the stunt showing the hope people and organizations still have in the climate negotiations in Cancún.
Negotiations are are in the final lap today and it would be this afternoon when we will hear final declarations and outcomes of the two week climate talks. A lot of obstacles have been sorted, still negotiations seem to show little hope and civil society is trying to make delegates focus both ears and eyes, but above these their wills to settle an agreement that leads to a healthier cleaner planet and remind them, above all, that climate change won’t wait.
